Delgado vs. Amil
Featherweights
Jose Delgado (9-1, 1-0 UFC) vs. Hyder Amil (11-0, 3-0 UFC)ODDS: Delgado (-180), Amil (+150)
As is more common lately, the UFC threw together these two fighters when other plans didn’t materialize, but in this case, it’s hard to argue with the potential violence. Amil isn’t exactly a prospect at 35 years old, but he has impressed as a fresh face since hitting the UFC in 2023. Amil figured to be a reliable action fighter at the very least, but his approach—built heavily around pace and pressure—has proven surprisingly sustainable as he has worked his way up the featherweight ladder. His outings aren’t always the prettiest, but something is always happening, and a big win over William Gomis in March was a huge proof of concept for “The Hurricane.” Rather than get a step up in competition, Amil takes on a relative newcomer in Delgado, who made his UFC debut in February after earning a contract on the 2024 Contender Series. Delgado is raw but promising and has a similar commitment to action, showing some ground skills but mostly getting by with some sharp and aggressive striking that could truly sing somewhere down the line. Delgado could wind up winning this down the stretch as the cleaner fighter, particularly since Amil can wear himself out at points with his commitment to pace. However, Amil is the much more proven fighter once this descends into the expected level of madness. The pick is Amil via second-round stoppage.
